Ingredients:
2-3 lbs boneless pork shoulder
12 oz can dark soda (Root Beer, Dr. Pepper)
BBQ Sauce (Optional), I recommend Sweet Baby Ray's if you want to use
1 Tbsp Garlic Powder
1 Tbsp Onion Powder
1 Tbsp Smoked Paprika
3 Tsp Salt
1 Tsp Fresh Black Pepper
Oil of your choice (for searing)
I really like this recipe as it has little active cooking time, and it tastes amazing! It only takes about half an hour of preparation in the morning, and then is basically ready once dinner comes around! I hope you enjoy!
Instructions:
Combine various powders in a small bowl to prepare a seasoning for the pork shoulder (garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, pepper).
2. Cover the pork with the seasoning mix prepared in Step 1, cover with plastic wrap, and refrigerate.
3. Next, heat oil of your choice in a cast-iron pan over medium-high heat. Once it is shimmering, sear the pork shoulder until golden-brown on all sides.
4. Place the pork shoulder into the slow cooker, and pour your soda over it. Cook for 8 hours over low until easily shreddable with a fork.
5. Use two forks and shred the meat, and if you choose add barbecue sauce. Serve in a sandwich or however you would like!
